Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™

The Board of Directors of the Kentucky National Guard Memorial Fund, Inc., is pleased to announce we will have a team in this year’s Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge™ (HHMC).  Kentucky Army National Guard veterans CW4 (Ret) Alan Beghtol and SPC Cheyenne Beatty have teamed up to enter the HHMC on behalf of the Memorial Fund.

YOU ARE INVITED TO BE PART OF THE EXPERIENCE!

With your upfront donation of $25 or more, or your pledge to donate at least 1 cent per mile of the challenge completed, we will send you a GPS tracker link and rider’s tracking codes before our Departure-Day Motorcycle Rally on June 18th so that you can follow Alan and Cheyenne along their grueling 14-day/10,000-mile journey.  This way you will be able to follow them from start to finish, 24/7.

To pledge a donation of 1 cent-per-mile or more, complete this handy web-form. Then, when the guys complete their journey, we will contact you again and let you know how many miles Alan and Cheyenne completed. If they finish the entire route, the donation would be $100.00 for a 1 cent-per-mile pledge, $200.00 for a 2 cents-per-mile pledge, etc.

More About the Challenge

The HHMC is a motorcycle endurance challenge designed to test the participants’ physical, mental, and emotional boundaries.  This year’s Challenge is set to kick off on 26 June 2022 and will be the start of another 14-day/10,000-mile test of endurance, patience, and skill.  The 2022 Challenge will begin and end in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The theme of this year's ride is "Remember" which is appropriate, for this one word summarizes the mission of the Kentucky National Guard Memorial… “To honor with ‘Solemn Pride’ the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Kentucky National Guard who have perished in the line of duty by providing a dignified monument commemorating ‘the cherished memory of the loved and lost’ who ‘have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.’”

To remember our fallen in this way is to better appreciate that our Kentucky National Guard history is not just a collection of facts, but rather a collection of personal and organizational experiences.  Remembering our fallen connects us with the past and helps us better understand how that past has shaped the present and influences the future.  Similarly, the Challenge route is not just a collection of roads that will take Alan and Cheyenne to the finish line.  For them, this journey is not only a challenge of skill and endurance, but a journey to remember their fallen friends and colleagues, and in doing so they are “Honoring Their Sacrifice”, the motto of the Kentucky National Guard Memorial.

If you want to know which roads the challengers will take and through which states, all you need to do is DONATE or PLEDGE a donation to the Memorial Fund and wait for Start day.  Not even the riders know the route yet and they will not know until the start of the Challenge.

What we do know is the route will start at the Black Hills Harley-Davidson in Rapid City, SD on June 26th.  From there, riders will head north, or maybe west... or maybe east.  They might even head south.  But you can be sure the entire route will remain in the contiguous 48 states.  The final leg of the route will bring riders to the finish line in Hot Springs, SD where the End of the Road celebration will be held on 9 July 2022 at Centennial Park.

The riders must follow strict rules of the challenge.  They are required to camp with their bikes – no hotels, and although they will be tracked by GPS tracking systems, they may not use GPS navigation assistance at any time along their route.

The Departure-Day Ceremony & Motorcycle Rally

Before the Challenge begins on 26 June, Alan and Cheyenne must first travel 1,300 miles to the Challenge start point in the Black Hills of South Dakota. So, on Saturday, 18 June 2022, the Kentucky National Guard Memoria Fund will hold a Departure-Day (D-Day) ceremony and Motorcycle Rally in their honor. We hope to give them a BIG sendoff.

The D-Day ceremony and Motorcycle Rally will be held at the Kentucky National Guard Memorial located at the entrance to Boone National Guard Center, 100 Minuteman Parkway, Frankfort, KY.  The event will begin at 11:00 a.m., then following a short ceremony, a motorcycle escort procession led by Alan and Cheyenne will depart the Memorial at approximately 11:30 a.m.  Individual motorcyclists and clubs interested in participating in the rally and motorcycle escort procession should arrive at the Memorial NLT 10:30 a.m. to be integrated into the lineup for the motorcycle procession.

From the Memorial, the motorcycle escort procession will proceed south approximately 0.6 miles on US 127 (West Frankfort Connector) to the intersection of US 60 (Louisville Road) then proceed west approximately 10  miles to Hwy 395 (Waddy Road), then turn south on Waddy Road proceeding approximately 1.7 miles to arrive at the I-64 interchange at 2100 Waddy Rd, Waddy, KY just south of the Flying J.  This will be the official end point for the motorcycle procession.  For everyone’s safety, local law enforcement will block off intersecting roads and escort the procession to the exit point.

Upon reaching the I-64 interchange, the Memorial riders, Alan and Cheyenne, will proceed west on I-64 to begin their 1,300-mile journey to the HHMC starting point in the Black Hills of South Dakota.  Other participants in the motorcycle escort procession are free at that point to continue south on Waddy Road, exit and proceed east on I-64, or continue west bound with Alan and Cheyenne to their desired exit point from I-64 in the Shelbyville or Louisville areas.

Individual riders and motorcycle clubs interested in participating in the D-Day rally and motorcycle escort procession should contact CW5 (Ret) Dean Stoops at (502) 682-8454 or info@kyngmemorial.com. Dean will put them in touch with our rally captain, Rick Schad.

This event is free and open to the public.
