KYNG Memorial TAG Open Charity Golf Scramble 2013

Current and former Kentucky National Guard members from across the state, army and air, joined friends and family for the 2013 Kentucky National Guard Memorial TAG Open on Monday, September 16th at Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville.

The event set 5 TAG Open records.

  • Highest number of players to ever register for the TAG Open at 180.
  • Highest number of golfers participating in the history of the event at 173.
  • Highest ever TAG Open gross receipts at $19,022.10
  • Highest ever TAG Open net to KYNG Memorial $16,990.22
  • Highest ever TAG Open number of volunteers at 41.

The winners included some familiar and some new faces.

  • Morning First Place Team: Troy Owens; Jeremy Burke; Chaz Garcia and Kennan McWhorter with a score of 56.
  • Morning Runner Up Team: Donnie Martin; Don Lawson; Wendell Hinkle and Jerry Strong with a score of 57.
  • Morning longest drive: Richard Ashbrook and Brynne Adams
  • Morning closes to the pin: Wendell Hinkle
  • Morning Chipping Contest: Steve Bullard took home a 39" flat screen smart television courtesy of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association by sinking his chip and surviving a playoff among the top three chippers with Tommy "Tin Cup" Young and Patrick Rogers.
  • Afternoon TAG Open First Place: Sam McConnell; Jeannie McConnell, Gary Rose and Glenn Reed with a 54.
  • Afternoon TAG Open Runner Up: James Crawford; Dusty Pollard; Clay Carter and Garland Fredericks with a 57.
  • Afternoon longest drive: Chris Justice and Jeannie McConnell
  • Afternoon closes to the pin: Greg Drury
  • Afternoon Chipping Contest: Gary Rose took home a 39" flat screen smart television courtesy of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association by surviving a playoff among the top three chippers with Maj Gen Ed Tonini and Eric Miles.

TAG Open OD "Green Jacket"

The honor of having their names inscribed on the TAG Open OD "Green Jacket" and bragging rights as the 2013 KYNG Golf Masters go to the overall first place team of McConnell, McConnell, Rose and Reed.

TAG Cup

     Bragging rights remain in the GREEN for the second year running -- The TAG Cup winning team for 2013 and all the bragging rights that go with it were Steve King; Terry Durham; Bill Riley and Kenny Staley representing the Kentucky ARMY National Guard with a score of 59.

The teams volunteering to uphold their services honor in the TAG Cup this year were:

  • Army: Jeff Arnett; Eddie Simpson; Dennis Hawthorne and Jason Aliff
  • Army: Steve King; Terry Durham; Bill Riley and Kenny Staley
  • Army: Scottie Sloan; Josh Varney; Fred Bates and Chris Justice

Jay Mattingly and Mitch Babb won prize drawings sponsored by First Command Financial Services
